Canmes Graduate Students Travel Grants

Purpose
The Canadian Committee of the Middle East Studies Association (CANMES) offers a number of annual travel grants to graduate students planning to attend academic conferences in North America. The purpose of these grants is to encourage graduate students to present their work in these conferences.

Eligibility
The competition for travel grants is open to graduate students currently enrolled in a Canadian university whose specialization pertains to any field of Middle East studies. Priority will be given to applicants who are members of MESA, the Middle East Studies Association of North America.

Grant Terms
Travel grants are available for graduate students planning to present at MESA, Learneds, and CCASLS conferences. Support for presentations at other major North American conferences will also be considered. Applicants may request a maximum of $750 (Canadian funds) each. Actual grant amounts are based on proposed budgets and the location of both the applicant and the conference. Travel grants are paid after the completion of the conference. Eligible expenses include airline or train travel and lodging. Original documentation of travel and lodging expenses, plus proof of conference registration (for verification purposes), should be sent to the address on the application form after the completion of the conference.

Deadlines
Competition for CANMES travel grants occurs on a continuous basis annually. However, applications must be received two months before the date of the proposed conference.
